Trekking trousers just got tighter

For several years the trend has been clear. Tights aren't just for the gym. They are go-anywhere items that traverse from the city to the outdoors. They're being used as ‘Swiss-army knife’ multi-tools, for everything from gym workouts to full-day hikes. But the tights available on the market haven’t really been suitable for challenging mountain trekking and close encounters with weather and wind. Until now.

“We're experts when it comes to trekking trousers and it could be said that what we have created here is a tighter form of trekking trousers,” says Elisabet Elfa Árnarsdottir, the designer behind our latest addition to our trouser collection.

Trekking in Abisko Trekking Tights

The idea with Abisko Trekking Tights is to combine the freedom and flexibility of tights with the tough durability of trekking trousers. And we think we've done it.

“We’ve seen that many people like trekking in tights, especially women. But the tights that have been available until now, don’t live up to the demands you meet on longer treks. So we’ve developed tights we’d like to use ourselves; robust trekking tights that can withstand scrambling in rocky terrain, sitting down on rough ground, making shorter or longer climbs and all the fun that comes with mountain trekking,” says Elisabet Elfa.

Unlike our trousers, Abisko Trekking Tights are really stretchy and don't restrict movement in any way. We've also been really careful with both the construction and the placement of seams to reduce the risk of chafing.

The design and function of the pockets is another important detail in trousers made for trekking. Both the women’s and men’s models have a map pocket on the right leg and a smaller pocket on the left leg. There is also a security pocket in the waist of the women’s model for keys or a credit card.

Abisko Trekking Tights have extra reinforcements that are water repellent on the knees and over the rear to be able to handle the challenges of mountain trekking. You should be able to kneel down and clamber about in rough terrain without risking the fabric ripping or tearing.

But primarily, tights should make outdoor life a little easier.

“Many of our customers enjoy many different activities - climbing, mountain biking, kayaking - and the Abisko Trekking Tights are the perfect adventure partner,” says Elisabet.
