Leave No Trace receives grant from the Arctic Fox initiative

Fjällräven, through the Arctic Fox Initiative, has committed to providing €120.000 of funding to three winners in 2019. The second place winner, according to the public voting via social media, was Leave No Trace Center for outdoor ethics.

Leave No Trace is a nonprofit organization, based in the USA, dedicated to protecting the outdoors by teaching people to enjoy it responsibly. This is based on seven principles

  1. Plan ahead and prepare
  2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces
  3. Dispose of waste properly
  4. Leave what you find
  5. Minimize campfire impacts
  6. Respect wildlife
  7. Be considerate of other visitors

The organisation accomplishes its mission by providing innovative education, skills and research to help people care for the outdoors. By working with the public and those managing public lands, Leave No Trace focuses on educating people as the most effective solution to land protection. The idea is that everyone should be able to enjoy our world, as much as we have - and therefore, we should leave no trace.

Leave No Trace is putting the €40.000 Arctic Fox grant to use, by expanding their targeted education efforts with a focus on teaching outdoor visitors how to respect wildlife and afford them the space needed to protect their health and wellbeing. “In 2019 we will create new wildlife-focused videos and online content — as well as in-person trainings — that give outdoor enthusiasts specific, easily understood guidance about the skills needed to enjoy nature without disrupting the animals that live  there”, says Mark Eller, Director of Foundations and New Business of Leave No Trace.

Leave No Trace education already reaches millions of people each year, inspiring visitors to protect and respect wild places. The Arctic Fox Initiative grant, and the educational videos that will be created, will mean that Leave No Trace education can reach an even wider audience in future. Every one of us can do a lot, but together we can do more.
