How to apply to Fjällräven Polar

Ready to leave your comfort zone? You’ve come to the right place. Here’s how to apply for Fjällräven Polar 2023.

Applications to Fjällräven Polar 2023 are now open and will close on Sunday 13th November 2022. Once the application phase closes, the Fjällräven jury – made up of Fjällräven Polar alumni, ambassadors, and employees – will select a shortlist of potential participants. The final winners will be announced at a livestream event on Friday 2nd December 2022. 

Applying for Fjällräven Polar 2023: Mandatory steps 

Step 1. Fill out the application form on the Fjällräven Experience Hub 

To apply for Fjällräven Polar 2023 application, you must first fill out the application form with basic information about yourself.

Note: This step is mandatory – your application won’t be processed unless you have completed this step. 

Step 2. Complete three challenges via Instagram 

After you have filled out the application form you’ll need to respond to three weekly challenges to complete your application. The challenges will be released every week via the email address you’ve provided in the application form. They will also be published via Fjällräven’s official Instagram account and updated on the Fjällräven Experience Hub starting from 24th October.   

We have created these challenges, not only as a way to get to know you and your motives for applying for this adventure, but to encourage you to reflect on your relationship with nature and the potential conditions you could face during Fjällräven Polar. 

The theme for each challenge is:  

Challenge 1: Your motives for wanting to join the Fjällräven Polar 2023 Expedition.

Challenge 2: Get closer to Fjällräven Polar 2023  

Challenge 3: Live a more sustainable life  

More information on each challenge will be released every week, starting October 24th at the global launch event. You must respond to all three challenges before applications close on November 13th 23:59 CET (Central European time).

The jury selection process:  

The aim of the jury is to select the winners for Fjällräven Polar 2023.  

Once the application phase is over, the Fjällräven jury – made up of Fjällräven Polar alumni, ambassadors, and employees – will select a shortlist, followed by the final 20 winners for Fjällräven Polar 2023 based on the following criteria:  

a) Completion of all three challenges 

b) Staying true to the challenge 

c) Capacity to inspire others 

- Creativity 

- Reach and distribution 

Jury Objectives 

  • An equal split between gender  
  •  Age distribution  
  •  Skill and experience variation  
  •  Geographical variation 

 
Note: By quality, we don’t mean high quality production, high end cameras, multi-channel sound or highly edited content. We want to see your authenticity and creativity, first and foremost! 

Key things to consider when applying

To apply, you need to complete all three challenges through Instagram and tag Fjällräven using the official Fjällräven Instagram account @fjallravenofficial , the hashtag created for this expedition #FjallravenPolar2023 and the number according to each challenge: #Challenge1 or #Challenge2 or #Challenge3. 

To participate, you need to agree to our Terms & Conditions in the application form (available from 24th October). You will also need your own Instagram account with the profile set to “public”. The content produced in correlation to each challenge is free of choice – it can be photos, videos, imagery, text and/or any other creative way. 

Platform specifications: 
Video: Max 60 seconds per post 

To participate, you need to have an open Instagram profile and agree to our Terms & Conditions in the application form (available from 24th October).

Your contribution needs to be in English, either written or spoken. 

You are not limited to one Instagram post per challenge, as long as you use the correct hashtag for each challenge.

FAQ - Applying for Fjällräven Polar 2023

Who can apply for a seat at Fjällräven Polar 2023? 

Fjällräven Polar is for anyone who wants to apply. However, this is a challenging event, mostly because of the conditions, so you should have a reasonable level of fitness. You must also be over the age of 18, be able to speak English, and have an open and flexible learning mindset. 

When does the application phase open and close? 

  • Applications for Fjällräven Polar 2023 open during the global launch event 24th October 2022 at 16:00 CET 
  • Applications will close on 13th November 2022  
  • The winners will be announced during a livestream event on 2nd December 2022 

What do I need to do to apply for Fjällräven Polar 2023? 

Step 1: Fill out the application form with some basic information about yourself.  

Step 2: Respond to the three challenges through Instagram which will be released weekly starting 24th October on the Fjällräven Experience Hub, our official Instagram account and in an email directly to you (once you have registered).  

You respond to the challenges by uploading your contribution to your Instagram account and tagging @FjallravenOfficial, #FjallravenPolar2023 together with either #Challenge1 or #Challenge2 or #Challenge3.

Note: You must complete Step 1 AND respond to all three challenges to be part of the final jury selection. 

Do I need to respond to a challenge directly when it’s released? 

No, as long as you have completed all three challenges before 13th November, 23.59 CET, you can decide when to respond to a challenge. However, since they will be released weekly and you might want to get creative, we recommend that you complete them as soon as each challenge is released. 

Do I need to attend the global launch event to apply? 

No, the global launch event is not mandatory when applying, but we do recommend you participate as it will give you a good overview of Fjällräven Polar 2023, what to expect from the expedition and the application process.
